AOL Community Photo Challenge - Hometown

Entering this in the Photo Challenge, as soon as I've decided on which category I'm in. Advanced? Suppose so, not entirely convinced. Here goes, it's actually an old picture, but it shows Stornoway's Cromwell Street on a busy afternoon in April 2005. Cromwell Street is the main thoroughfare and shopping street.

    WOW!!!  There ARE other people in Stornoway!!!!!!!  LOL!!!   It's a beautiful pic!!  Still has that home-y feel to it!!  I love it!!

    Ohhh, we used to have a Woolworths!  Had a little cafe', too...  Great pic!

    Lovely image. It really captures the 'feel' of your hometown. I love the colors and really like the curve of the street in the foreground. Great submission!

    Is that a Woolworth's I see?  If so...we haven't had them here for years.  The one here in my town was huge, two floors with an escalator & elevator.  There was also a small restaurant, with a lunch counter.  As a little girl, my grandma would take me there for the best cherry soda's in the world. You could buy anything you needed at Woolworths.   I believe the one here closed in the late 1970's.  Great shot !  Linda in Washington state

    Well I'm going to say the same thing as Linda.  The first thing I noticed was Woolworth, I thought they were long gone.  That used to be my favorite place to shop and have lunch up to the counter, my Mom liked it too.  Great picture.  I wonder what the deadline is for this contest?  Joni

    What a pretty town - great picture also.  I wonder if that is the same Woolworth stores as we used to have in the states at one time.  Interesting.

    Toss my name in with those others who remember the Woolworths of our youth here in the US.  This is a great shot, Guido.  I hope to go out tomorrow, my day off, and get a shot of Savannah to enter in the Challenge.

    Oh how I'd love to be walking down that street and doing some shopping/exploring and just having fun with my camera.  I'm eagerly looking forward to my opportunity to return to England. :-)  I once spent a year in Maidenhead - not far from Windsor.  Thank you for sharing this, it's lovely.

    Yep, I recall Woolworth's too...loved those ice cream soda's from the soda fountain in their little restaurents.   At least I think that was Woolworth's or maybe that was Newberry's????
