Near miss

A British Airways Boeing 777 has crashlanded at Heathrow airport near London this afternoon, narrowly missing nearby houses and a busy road. There is unconfirmed speculation that there was a comprehensive power failure on board. All passengers and crew managed to evacuated the aircraft, 18 of whom had received relatively minor injuries. There is disruption at Heathrow, where one runway remains closed.

Further details, including contact telephone numbers, can be found on the BBC website.

  2. And people ask me why I won't fly ~ just looking at this picture and thinking about those passengers makes my heart beat fast.  I'm really glad to hear nobody was killed, plane crashes usually don't have a good ending.

  3. Guido, saw that on TV news at 6 PM EST. Could not believe all got away with only minor injuries. Hard to believe. Wonder how far it dropped? TV said the pilot said he lost both engines at the same time on approach to land. WOW!
Now I will never get my wife on a plane again.

  4. It's all over the news here in Boeing land.  Very good news that no lives were lost.  I wonder if those people will ever be able to get on another plane ?  I think if I'd been on it, just arriving in the U.K. for a visit, I would apply for citizenship and stay put. Linda in Washington state

  5. Wow those people were so lucky! I'd be so scared to fly again if I'd been on that plane.

  6. What could have been a really major tragedy turned out lucky for those who only had minor injuries. I don't worry about flying (not that I do that much.) I feel like when it's my time to be called home, it's my time.
Again glad it wasn't worse than it is.

  8. The plane landed just yards from Jim`s place of work. He told me he had often re-fuelled that plane too. I`m just glad he wasn`t at work yesterday when it happened. Thank goodness though for the leverl-headedness of the two pilots as they definitely saved many lives.
